Title: "This Fourth July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn.”
Abolitionist Frederick Douglass spoke these words on July 5, 1852 in Rochester, New York, to an audience of mostly white opponents of slavery. Many abolitionists believed the Constitution was a pro-slavery document. To them, it was an "agreement with Hell."
That’s what makes this speech so important. Douglass publicly pushed back against his allies. He argued that the Constitution — and its protections of the right to free speech among others — would eventually be the instrument of freedom it was designed to be, and which he hoped it would be. To Douglass, the Constitution was a “glorious liberty document.”

Meanwhile, 71 years later…
The government is still trying to censor speech
The Biden White House attempted an injunction halt so it could continue to be the “misinformation” police on social media. Their request just failed, a win for the Constitution.
Meanwhile, France has given its police the authority to remotely activate cameras, microphones, and GPSs of suspects’ phones, laptops, cars, etc.

The face of the new European right is increasingly feminine
The march of Europe’s right-wing is looking pretty… well… hot! Elections in Italy, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Hungary, and most recently Greece have all gone to the right — and often to the women — but these conservative women definitely aren’t traditional.
It’s noteworthy that none of these women —with the exception of Purra, a married mother of two — has a conventionally conservative private life. Weidel is in a relationship with a woman and has two adopted children. Ayuso is a childless divorcée. Meloni is not married to the father of her child. Le Pen is a twice-divorced mother of three who lives with a female school friend and says that if elected president, she will take her seven cats and their offspring to the Elysée Palace instead of a man.
