Is free speech for war time?
More on Israel-Palestine. Plus, 'Special Interest Aliens' crossing our border. And on the brighter side, is getting sick good for you?
DWYT’s mission is to bring you news and debate that is missing from mainstream media. In the mainstream’s coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, we are noticing differing opinions. (Nellie Bowles and Naomi Wolf, below, may be onto why that is.) In the independent press, for different reasons, we are also seeing varying viewpoints. Which reminds us—
Human rights and free speech are for times of war, not just peace
In order to preserve life, Public makes a plea for restraint and wisdom in the Israel-Palestine conflict, and also warns: during wars “governments sometimes censor and restrict liberties, including on the basis of ideology, race, and religion.”
More on free speech, which apparently the people not just the institutions need to hear. 🤦🏽♀️
This one weird trick makes people pro-free speech
(Things I learned while talking to people on the streets of Dublin, Ireland.)
I [Michael Shellenberger] testified before Congress about the Twitter Files and was shocked to see Democratic members argue strenuously that there should be more censorship... But the fact of the matter is that there is genuine grassroots support for censorship, too… Democrats who favor government censorship increased from 40% to 70% between 2018 to 2023. Republicans have been better but are also wavering. Their support for censorship went from 37% to 28% to 39% in 2018, 2021, and 2023, respectively.
So, to summarize: currently, 70% of Dems and 39% of Republicans support censorship, which means over 1/2 of Americans. 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ “[I]t’s crucial for people to remind themselves that the only way we reduce intolerance and hate is through dialogue and debate, not censorship.”
DWYT’s 2 cents: discussion and debate are generally the way to Truth.
When speech against the Powers That Be lands us in jail, even in a democracy—
Instagram: Julian Assange is being punished because he did the right thing
This speech, from Stella Assange, Julian’s wife, recently received a standing ovation in Luxembourg: “It’s not like [Julian] crossed the line… you can [i.e., are allowed to] publish true information even when it offends and indicts the most powerful person in the room.”
Back to Israel. Here is James Corbett and The Last American Vagabond, both significant voices in independent media, discussing the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
Podcast: Israel’s 9-11
The two discuss: “the ongoing siege on Occupied Palestine, the deadly attack by Hamas that preceded it, and the rapidly growing sentiment among Israeli citizens that this attack was either carried out by, or coordinated with, the Israeli government in order to justify their political agenda (the agenda itself varies between speakers), or was allowed to happen for the very same reason. [They] also discuss the overwhelming evidence of war crimes being committed against the Palestinian people and the deafening silence of the ‘rules-based international order’.”
(And while the audio is noted to be bad, it’s still tolerable to listen.)
From a different vantage, you have Nellie Bowles’ TGIF column:
TGIF: Hot takes on terrorism
The obvious new symbol for members of the Democratic Socialists of America is a Hamas soldier. I can’t believe I never thought of it myself. Who would respect your pronouns more than a Hamas paraglider?
With her typical sharp AF wit, Nellie is at her best as she takes on a “filet of the finest Hamas-Israel bad takes” calling out mainstream institutions BS, hypocrisy and downright stupidity.
Then there is Tucker— yes, Tucker— calling out Fox News and the inflammatory rhetoric by some Republican leaders.
Rumble: Israel vs Palestine: Tucker SLAMS 2 prominent Republicans, Brand comments
At the 5 - 13 min. mark, Russell dissects Tucker’s commentary on two Fox News favorites.
Tucker on X calls out the “hysteria” of Nikki Haley (mainstream media’s pick for Republican ticket, he says) and the “war mongering” of Lindsey Graham. “This is not sober leadership,” agrees Brand accusing both of being simply neocons.

One doctor's case against vaccines (in general)
Richard Moskowitz MD has been a family doctor for 53 years. In this article, he doesn’t talk about vaccine side effects, but rather of the benefits of not vaccinating— and getting sick! We found this a fascinating, succinct article.
“[N]o publicity is given to the growing body of research demonstrating that those who come down with and recover from measles, mumps, chickenpox, influenza, and other common acute diseases of childhood are much less likely to develop chronic, autoimmune diseases and cancer later in life than those who do not. This protective effect is actually proportional to the number of such illnesses recovered from.
So perhaps the old adage is true… What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!

Please calm down
The importance of staying centered in a global crisis.
Like Nellie Bowles in her TGIF column above, Naomi Wolf notes the difference in the general institutional response to Israel this time around.
Also, do not miss Wolf’s discussion toward the bottom about Special Interest Aliens— “SIAs”— crossing the US border. We’ll bring you more on the US border crisis next newsletter. Be sure you’re subscribed.
We leave you with a plea from the people—
Instagram: “We can certainly afford two wars.”
BUT LET’S NOT!
Thanks for all these links. I was vaccinated against MMR and as an adult developed an autoimmune disease, so very interesting.
I will add another interesting take on Israel/ Palestine from Meryl Nass: https://merylnass.substack.com/p/the-forbidden-truth-israel-and-the?utm_source=profile&utm_medium=reader2
