New York Times infighting could have a profound effect on culture wars
Plus, Novak Djokovic. Ukraine politics. Bing Chat. Natural immunity. And more.

Drama at the NYT rages on
And we are loving it!
Mud- and spit-slinging, a several weeks long battle described as woke youth versus old liberals, the later claiming to “pursue the facts wherever they may lead,” has Hecklers on the edge of our seats. UK’s Daily Mail reckons…
The outcome of this acrimonious battle over trans issues at the [NYT] — between the experienced hands and the woke millennials succeeding them — could have profound ramifications for the culture war that is causing such divisions on both sides of the Atlantic.
While Hecklers disagrees that the NYT’s pursues facts wherever they made lead, we appreciate that at least some of the staff claim that’s still the goal.
Bari Weiss in her famous NYT resignation letter highlights the problem at the paper: “Showing up for work as a centrist at an American newspaper should not require bravery.” Bari has gone on to start a competing publication, one we frequently elevate, The Free Press. We bet the NYT is reading, which could be causing some of the infighting. You may want to, too.

Natural immunity for the win!
Natural immunity is at least as protective and durable against severe complications as vaccination says February’s Lancet study. At least, if not better.
And another heavily censored and suppressed Covid “conspiracy theory” becomes “The Science.”
It wasn’t long ago that Mr. Fauci stated, “Vaccines, actually, at least with regard to SARS-CoV-2 can do better than nature.”

Instagram: Novak Djokovic continues to be denied entry to USA for refusing the 2+ year old Covid vax
Meanwhile over 30% of Americans are walking around with no Covid vaccine at all; 84% are walking around without updated boosters; and natural immunity (Djokovic has had Covid twice) has been declared at least as good, if not better, than the vaccine in February’s Lancet study. Stats here. DeSantis is appealing to Biden with this letter. Heckling this one loud and clear: WTF White House. Once again, politics trumps science — and common sense. And in this case, with no scientific justification, those politics are coming across quite totalitarian and evil.

Don’t believe the hype. There is not a sentient being trapped in Bing Chat
We’ve been down this path before, twice, and we don’t need to worry that AI will become some God-like being taking over the world in “singularity,” claims this author. It’s marketing hype.
AI does, however, pose a significant threat to our freedoms and livelihood. “Forget the super-powerful AI – what could be worse than a world in which we are all forced to live under the narrow demands of machines that are less intelligent than us.”
